Silver Bay is a little tarnished
The story centers around a quaint beach town and a run-down hotel. You meet Liza and her daughter, then enters a big city developer, sprinkle in some family secrets, and toss in a cast of various characters add to that a sub-line about whales and dolphins and a book is born.To me this could have been a super great read, especially coming from this author, but this book is just ok, nothing that will keep you up at night, nothing that will keep you turning pages, it's what I refer to as a "chick lit beach read". As you read it, you know how it will end, you just don't know which road it will take to get you there. JoJo Moyes can put out some riveting books but this is not one of them, this again seems to me to be one of those "meet the deadline" types of book.If you're looking for a book that won't stop you from doing other things, that won't keep you up at night, that won't make want to stop everything and read then this is the book for you. It's not bad but it is bland, the characters are forgettable, story line predicable the only way I can help you understand is to equate it to a Life Time movie, once you've seen one, then the next one is a cookie-cutter with different characters and locations.

I love her books
Another thoughtful read from a special author. I love her books, she develops her characters with insight for the reader and this is no exception. I am a big fan of historic and thriller genres and find that reading a Jojo Moyes book gives balance and "soul" to my reading. Another great fact about the author is the variety and settings of her books - always fresh and different, no serial writer here.

Well now.
It took me several chapters (8) to get into this book. But....once I start a book I will finish it no matter what. I am happy to say I was not disappointed. It was excellent. I highly recommend and don’t give up. It gets so much better as you read.

takes a while to get story going
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I felt like it took a really long time to get the plot going. The beginning just seemed to drag on with the development of the characters and the story line. However, the last 1/3 of the book was very entertaining and it definitely kept me guessing, just wished the first 2/3 moved a long a little quicker.

Moving story about the connection between all types of people and animals
When a city dwelling businessman travels to an ocean front community, he experiences connections with people and nature that have meaning for the first time in his life. This story shares a pivotal time in the lives of several 30 year olds and how they change each other's futures. I really enjoyed learning about sea life - whales and dolphins - and the people who build their lives around protecting threatened ocean creatures. I was moved, although not surprised. A good read.

Ok but not her best
I love Jojo moyes books but apparently this is one of her first before Me versus you. It doesn't grab you from the first page but about half way through really grabs you until the end. A worthwhile read.

feeling like a fly on the wall of their daily lives
Although this book took me longer to get connected to than some of her other novels, Silver Bay did grip me by the third chapter. Its host of characters were endearing, and I was drawn into the little town of Silver Bay, feeling like a fly on the wall of their daily lives. My heart ached for Liza and Hannah, but I appreciated both of their strength and depth. As always, I am hooked by another Jojo Moyes novel and have trouble leaving its characters and setting behind.

Great read.
I have been enthralled by Jojo Moyes books since I first picked one up. Silver Bar certainly didn’t disappoint, it was a beautiful story written in a lyrical style. The storyline, as before, made it a page-turner. If you love the sea and getting away from the rat race you will enjoy this book. Thoroughly recommend.

It took me 4 years to read this book.
Yes, that's right, 4 years. I downloaded it onto my kindle 4 years ago, and got as far as 8%, I just could not get into it. When sorting out my cloud library thought I would give it another go, so glad I did. It's a love story, an education of sea creatures, all set in a little bay in Australia, the big corporation wants to build a huge hotel complex ruining the little bays livelihood and small hotel, great characters, lovely lovely story. Well done again ms moyes

Slow start but worth continuing
I found this a slow starter. I am a massive Jojo Notes fan and never struggle with her books yet this one was difficult to get into.It wasn't until about 3 chapters in that I found myself hooked and looking forward to finding out what happens next.I found myself loving Mike and his aura radiating from the pages. What I thought he would do he did the opposite and I loved it! Found myself wishing i knew a real life Kathleen and Nino!!Definitely worth reading as although a slow starter it ended with a bang!! 4 starts just because it was hard to get into.

Disappointed
I have read several of Jojo Moyes' books and really enjoyed, but this one disappointed. It took me a while to get into the book, in fact I almost abandoned it. There were so many points of view that I was often lost. In addition the plot was stretched beyond belief many times and Liza was a non character and I couldn't see why two men would be fighting over her. Some of the themes explored in the book were good ideas, but not treated particularly well.I felt that the last chapter was unnecessary and after rereading the last page several times it still confused me.

A good relaxing read with a decent plot
I enjoyed reading this book. It's set in the sleepy town of Silver bay between Brisbane and Sydney on the east coast of Australia. The basic story is a little clichéd - big powerful developer wants to build a massive tourist complex in a quiet location which resist change. In addition to all this there is a lot of narrative about whales and dolphins as many characters in the story rely on boat trips to view whales and dolphins for their livelihood. And most are keen to preserve a safe and healthy environment for these creatures which the new complex and water sports centre is going to threaten. It’s a good and enjoyable read with plenty of interesting characters involved.
