Doctor Who Resolution (2019 Special) [Blu-ray]

A Special that hits the (Dalek) spot.
Resolution was a fun and exciting Special to start 2019 on and to tide the series over until Series 12 in 2020. I can’t believe so many have rated the episode one star only whilst decrying the show is not Doctor Who anymore because it’s social conscience has come to the fore. It is Doctor Who as much as Star Trek: Discovery is still Star Trek but both shows have given a new spin by their respective production teams.Resolution attempts to do something new with the Daleks and succeeds. It’s a fun, action packed episode which has scares and thrills with Charlotte Riley a standout when her character is taken control of by the Dalek mutant. The scene in the crypt is particularly effective as she comes face to face with it, as is the mounting sense of horror as it makes her work and kill for it. It’s battle with the army is superbly shot too.Meeting a Dalek for the first time in her tenure gives Jodie Whitaker’s Doctor a chance to show more gravitas and less levity which is something should continue into series 12 and Jodie Whitaker continues to be excellent in her portrayal of the Doctor as does Bradley Walsh as Graham. The weak spots are again Yasmin Khan who is given very little to do other than interject the odd line or two and the resolution of Ryan’s story with his father. Series 11 had painted his father as some kind of awful person but turns out he was just misguided and made a few bad choices. Whilst Tosin Cole is excellent in the scene confronting his father, it doesn’t pay off as it does not have the emotional punch it should have. This is a more traditional Doctor Who story then some in series 11 and it feels like the new production team have found their groove. I can’t wait to see what happens in series 12.

Still better than half the Moffat Era...
People seem to forget that they wanted Moffat to move on because his storylines where timelines are thouroughly messed with and the the first seasons for Matt Smith ended with a universal reset before continuing, complained that Capaldi was Too old to play the Doctor, just because the younger fans were more used to pretty boys like Smith and David Tennant.I enjoyed the Capaldi Era of Doctor Who, and eagerly anticipated a whole 8 months to see Jodies first series.I was impressed. Gone were the confusing stories, no more was there a main threat refrenced in every single episode.Imstead we had 10, incredible, stand-alone tales for the TARDIS Fam and it would include mutant spiders, rosa parks, and a beautiful episode of love against the partition of india following a world war (that aired on remembrance Sunday as i recall)I think Jodie and Chris have done a great Job. And before i am accused of not eing a true Doctor Who fan, i was only 5-months old when Sylvester McCoy's last stories aired in 1989, but i started my love of who in 1993, where i only had tapes of classic adventures to keep the show alive for me. I went through horrendous bullying for 4 years, with ace and the doctor being my heroes - goving me the courage to fight back. I was blown away by the shows return.I believe a true Who fan will love any Era, regardless of the flaws (we got great episodes while we had Smith as the 11th Doctor).Jodie and Chris have done a decent job and like i said, if you dont like... well theres always other shows you can watch, DW wont exactly suffer cause a few people stop watching!

A cracking New Year's Day special
This is a stonking episode of Doctor Who. Pacey, scary, fun. Easily one of the strongest episodes of Series 11 (which immediately preceded it.) Jodie Whittaker is on top form in an action-packed episode that showcases her at her most Doctorish, and the supporting cast turn in excellent performances.. The script successfully breathes new menace into an old enemy - it must be tough to find a fresh angle after fifty plus years but the Dalek scout here is different enough to be a compelling adversary. It's sinister and scary long before it welds together a Frankensteinian metal tank to house itself (a neat parallel of the Doctor welding her sonic screwdriver way back in her debut episode.) Solid entertainment from start to finish - and a much better finale to Whittaker's first series than the actual series finale.

13s time too shine
Amazing acting from all the cast , very likable secondary cast and genuine body Horror with the dalek creature taking control of a human host.Jodie has, in my opinion reached her "goose bump moment" when she confront the dalek hologram whilst in the tardis, making for a real doctor cool moment. All in all I really enjoyed this special and it gives me hope for series 12, I'll admit series 11 dragged a little for me, not because of the wonderful casting as there characters where great, I just felt a lack of familiar monsters left the show without the sparkle and excitement it needed. So loved this, I laughed I was thrilled and I hid behind the metaphoric sofa.

Another brilliant adventure for team tardis!
Another fabulous adventure with Team Tardis & this time a classic foe returns with a vengeance! This story see's The Daleks return with a bang! And for the first time in years makes them feel genuinely threatening and scary with lots of death and a rustic new design which work really well.Whittaker turns in her best performances yet and the other cast members all get a chance to shine , expecially Ryan as his character is explored alot more in this story.Overall an amazing special , probably my favourite special since the 50th back in 2013. Really looking forward to S12!

Best Dalek story in a long long while.
This special rounds off the wonderful series 11 beautifully. Nick is on point making the creature genuinely dangerous, Jodie is adorable, the Ryan/Dad thread is tied up,Graham is poignant and Yaz gets to take a lot of phone calls! The actress that plays Lin goes from 'come and get me' girl next door to malevolent murderer and then back again effortlessly.A nod to quantum mechanics and modern cell research underscoring the Dalek's biological reforming is Sci Fi gold. Great positive escapist entertainment all round.
