happily surprised
A couple of months (or so) ago I discovered that my sewing kit had been "misplaced" after we'd had visitors, so I've had to start rebuilding what has been lost. That is over 30 years of sewing equipment - much of it being items which have been passed down from generation to generation and, as such, are heartbreakingly irreplaceable.I started with the main components that I use all the time - scissors (embroidery and shears), sewing needles (both tapestry and sharps), tape measures and embroidery hoops of various sizes. The hoops I was used to working with had been given to me by my mother when she first taught me to sew. They were given to her when she first learnt to sew as a child, so they had been well used and had a lovely colour and smoothness.I needed a hoop (at least one) and, though I have used 4 inch hoop, I must admit that I find it almost impossible to work with anything smaller than an 8 inch.So I took my time and looked around. I discovered that my local "knitting" shop has changed hands and they only stocked small rings which weren't true adjustable ones, but rather the flexible display rings ( like this one ).I went to a famous hobby shop and found rings like these at just under 10 times the price! I contacted my favourite supplier "Willow Fabrics" in Mobberley but they were out of the rings size I was looking for so, being desperate I decided to risk it and buy this one which was supplied by "The Quilted Bear".I felt a little rough when it arrived but, as my mother pointed out, it would smooth out over time and there were no areas of it where it might pull the delicate material threads - I have a piece of Chinese silk which was previously ruined and rolled it around the hoop to check and it did not pull, neither did it pull when I took it off and on the material. The adjustable nut is easy to use and stays tight.Overall I am happily surprised by the hoop and look forward to using it for many years to come, obviously it isn't of the quality of those old ones which had been handed down to me but it is highly unlikely that you could get any of those these days anyway.

The wood on the embroidery hoop has what looks like a purple/blue ink on the wood and the hardware ...
The wood on the embroidery hoop has what looks like a purple/blue ink on the wood and the hardware on it to close/open it was done up extremely tight, if I didn't have my husband to open it I wouldn't have been able to open it !!! At £1.90 it's not worth returning but I won't buy again from this experience. My husband thinks he can sand the ink stain out of the wood and the hardware is really over sized so will need sawing down to size, I am using this for a craft project so as it wasn't an aesthetically pleasing looking embroidery hoop I won't recommend to my friends or buy multiple amounts for workshops I am planning on doing!

Excellent Value
For the price I paid, I will admit that my expectations were not high for this product, but I am pleased to have been proved wrong. The hoop is excellent value for money and the surface of the wood is smooth all round which I think had been my main concern. The little nut and bolt is easy to tighten and stays in place. There's not really a lot else to say about this product, except that I am impressed with the quality and I expect there is a chance I'll buy another one in a smaller size for my next project too.

a basic hoop
This is a basic sewing hoop. It is absolutely fine but don't leave your work in it too long - also make sure your hands are clean. I found some staining on my fabric once removed. It looked as if it were from the actual wood of the hoop, but it could have been sweaty hands, I suppose! However, I would buy a plastic one if I wanted a new one, just to make sure. But at the price you pay for this one, you can't really complain.

Great hoop
Really like this product. It is as described and good quality. The fastening is a little too tight but that might be normal for this type of product, not sure as this is my first embroidery hoop. I found it hard to open and do back up,Would recommend.

A little late delivery, but overall great product!
A very nice hoop. Clean and well sanded wood - although there is a small rough patch, it doesn't upset the material - with good strength so far. screw was a little stiff at first, but it's perfectly fine after a couple twists. Did arrive a little later than expected, but still within the deadline. I went with deal4you, for those wondering. Very happy with the price and the quality. Thank you!

Fine for its purpose but look elsewhere if you want a decorative frame.
This is fine for the job and will hold your material taut for you to stitch. However I wanted the hoop to be used decoratively and hold and frame my work. For this I don't recommend, the hoop looks cheap and actually doesn't look anything like the one in the picture. It has a really long clamp that doesn't look as nice as the traditional brass look butterfly style of clamp.
