Savage Gear 3D Rat - Top Water Lure

Very realistic swimming action

It's a great lure concept with two fatal flaws: the tail is flimsy and comes off after one or two bites. Yes, an extra tail is included but still extremely expensive for such a major limitation. I did superglue a tail and it holds up better. Fish love the action and I've had several big catches but missed many more, which leads me to the second deficiency...There should also be an additional treble hook towards the back of the mouse as many fish short-strike.

Don't get me wrong Savage gear is making great lures. But some of them like the 3D Rat are more made to catch the person buying it because it looks so realistic,...but the lures action is below average.As a guide I can throw the SPRO Rat on every guests rod to catch fish. He does not know how to fish it,...just a steady retrieve to feel and see maximum action. I do not know if a Musky ever will see the whiskers of the Savage gear Rat,...but they for sure do not turn around because the SPRO Rat does not have any!!! In addition you need the right technique to make the Savage gear move the way you want. I did catch some Pike and Musky on the Savage gear Rat,...but it is much harder to fish, has a lot less action (no noise) and the tail gets bitten off just to easy!

As soon as i saw the lure i knew it was different from what the picture shows. Picture shows 2 triple hooks lure only has one. I then noticed the tail can b detachable, i knew it would come off within a few cast or a fish could possibly bite it off... a few cast in no bites and tail was gone, it does have good action it could possibly catch a big one but poorly made not what i expected for the price!!!

Decent design... but has product flaw. Tail section breaks off. Portion of body where tail attaches breaks off when lure hits the water. I bought two (one large and one small) and both did the same thing in the exact same area. Very disappointing. Am returning the latest one, but waited too long and couldn’t return the first one.

Tied the lure on in Canada back in June. Made the typical comment you hear in the south, "watch this". Made a nice long cast and the lure hit about 6 inches from the rocky shoreline. After a pause to let the ripples settle out made one turn of the reel handle and boom. A nice three pound small mouth clobbered the mouse. Yeah that worked for me and it was followed by others the balance of the week.

This thing works. First cast caught a fish the only thing is that the tails don’t stay on. After every strike I lost the tails. I’m buying another one and I’m going to silicon the tail in.

Great swim action! Dives about 4-6" below water surface when retrieving. Absolutely fun watching a Pike strike it when within 10' of boat.Used it for early June fishing trip. Had access to both small mouth bass and northern Pike. No success with small mouth but the Pike was hitting it constantly.Two concerns: 1. Only one treble hook located on belly; would prefer a second hook toward the rear, and 2. When tail lost, unable to attach the backup tail firmly (no instructions).

The rat body is about 3.5” long, has one hook on the mid belly and no options to attack hooks on the back or anywhere else.Hopeful for the bait but NOT what is advertised.

BIG BAIT, BIG FISH! I give it a few twitches and WHHAMMY! 7.5lb Bass! 23 1/2 " They bite on the slow retrieve but NAIL IT on the first jig/twitch. Great bait buying more! They dont get any bigger here in New England!

Use this for my golf course ponds in the back yard. Its legit automatic strikes every cast. I have also had major success with it fishing lakes off docks and debri.

3rd cast doing a slow retrieve at night and a 2+ pound bass hammered it. Awesome lure with great swimming action.

It's really realistic looking in the water. It dives and swims well, even comes with an extra tail. While trying at the beach, people actually thought it was a real mouse!

I did not have any luck on this lure this year but love the look and the action, guess I didn't put it in front of the right fish :(
